GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Adient PLC is engaged in supplying automotive seating. It designs, manufactures and markets seating systems and components for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and light trucks, including vans, pick-up trucks and sport/crossover utility vehicles.

Adient began trading Oct. 31, 2016, when Johnson Controls spun off its automotive experience segment into this new company. Adient is the leading seating supplier to the industry with over 35% share in both North America and Europe as well as a dominant share in China of about 45%. Operations in China are accounted for under the equity method so revenue there is unconsolidated. Unconsolidated seating and interiors revenue from joint ventures totaled over $17 billion in fiscal 2017. The company is headquartered in Ireland but has corporate offices in the Detroit area. Fiscal 2018 consolidated revenue, i.e. excluding joint venture sales, is likely to be about $17 billion.

Guru Investment Theses on Adient PLC

First Eagle Fund of America Comments on Adient plc - Oct 31, 2017

Adient plc (NYSE:ADNT), which provides automotive seating, announced the acquisition of Futuris, which we believe may improve its earn-ings visibility into next year. As in the case of Visteon, Adient shares also reacted to the improved outlook for US new vehicle sales following the recent hurricanes. In addition, an activist investor announced a large position in the company.

Chris Davis Comments on Adient - Aug 09, 2017

A representative out-of-the-spotlight business is Adient (NYSE:ADNT), a global manufacturer of automotive seating and interiors that was spun-off from Johnson Controls in October 2016. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, the company is the industry’s leading seating supplier delivering 25 million seating systems per year to 40 different original equipment manufacturers. Adient is an attractive new addition to our Portfolio given its seasoned management team, dominant market share and low valuation.
