GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Alpha Pro Tech Ltd develops, manufactures & markets disposable protective apparel & infection control products for cleanroom, industrial, pharmaceutical, medical & dental markets. It also manufactures building supply construction weatherization products.

Alpha Pro Tech Ltd was incorporated in the State of Delaware on July 1, 1994 as a successor to a business that was organized in 1983. The Company is the parent of Alpha Pro Tech, Inc. and Alpha ProTech Engineered Products, Inc. The Company is engaged in the development, manufacture, and marketing of disposable protective apparel, building supply, and infection control products principally in the United States. Its business segment are Building Supply, Disposable Protective Apparel and Infection Control. The Building Supply segment consists of a line of construction supply weatherization products, namely housewrap and synthetic roof underlayment as well as other woven material. This line of products is a natural extension of the core capabilities: creating proprietary products designed to protect people and environments. The Disposable Protective Apparel segment includes many different styles of disposable products, such as shoecovers, bouffant caps, gowns, coveralls, lab coats, frocks and other miscellaneous products. The vast majority of these products are manufactured by subcontractors in Asia and, to a much lesser extent, a subcontractor in Mexico. The Infection Control segment includes face masks and eye shields. The face masks come in a wide variety of filtration efficiencies and styles. I patented Positive Facial Lockfeature provides a custom fit to the face to prevent blow-by for better protection. The term "blow-by" is used to describe the potential for infectious material to enter or escape a facemask without going through the filter as a result of gaps or openings in the face mask. The products are sold to the following markets: construction weatherization products (building supply products) are sold to construction supply and roofing distributors, and disposable protective apparel and infection control products (masks and shields) are sold to the industrial, cleanroom, medical and dental markets. The competitor in the medical and dental markets is Kimberly-Clark Corporation of Fort Worth, Texas. Other large competitors include 3M Company, Johnson & Johnson, White Knight Engineered Products (Precept Medical Products, Inc.), Cardinal Health, Inc. and Medline Industries Inc. Its competitors in the industrial and cleanroom market are its former distributor, VWR International, LLC, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, 3M Company, Kappler, Inc., DuPont and Allegiance Healthcare Corporation. Its competitors in the construction supply weatherization market are DuPont for housewrap and Interwrap Inc. for synthetic roof underlayment.
