Fund invests in Great-West Lifeco, Baytex Energy

The Leith Wheeler Canadian Equity (Trades, Portfolio) Fund disclosed in its fourth-quarter 2018 portfolio, which was released earlier this week, that it established two new positions and exited two others.

With the goal of generating superior long-term returns while protecting capital, the fund, which is part of Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel, uses bottom-up, fundamental analysis to find potential investments among a diverse number of undervalued Canadian companies that have stable earnings, long-term business models and good management.

Based on these criteria, the fund’s portfolio managers opened positions in Great-West Lifeco Inc. (TSX:GWO) and Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE),

At the beginning of each month I screen the market with my best dividend-paying stock screening criteria which are listed below. I believe that it makes sense to observe the market by good valuated long-term growth stocks. For sure many of the results are lucky strikes, companies that have had an extraordinary good financial strength and growth due to a fantastic business environment. But the developments are not sustainable. But sometimes there are new ideas on my list like Herbalife or recently the weapon maker Sturm & Ruger. Those were corporate stocks in special situations. I’m looking for cheap stocks with a solid dividend. That’s my basic premise in stock hunting. In order to get new ideas, I make every month a screen about the best dividend paying stocks on the market. The best dividend paying stock list is a small compilation with seven tough investing criteria, summarized below. The list includes each month around 20 to 30 results. It’s a quick dividend list (from low-yield to high-yield paying stocks) of stocks with interesting performance and valuation figures. Stocks from that list are mid- and large caps (market capitalization of more than USD1 billion) with

The recent sell-off on the market made stocks a little bit cheaper, but they are not real bargains. Some stocks are still very highly valuated, and only a few single stocks have become more attractive. It’s important to own good long-term growth stocks at reasonable prices in order to receive a good investment return. If the company grows further and accelerates its growth, your stake will definitely become larger over the time. Each month, I create a quick dividend list (from low-yield to high-yield paying stocks) of shares with interesting performance and valuation figures. Stocks from that list are mid

Growth solves many problems but it could also create some when its not productive. Within the investment scene, growth is a wonderful item for wealth creating. I personally like growth stocks especially when they pay good dividends and the board let grow them too. But growth is not an easy solution. A company creates only values, if it grows with a higher profitability: When the return on investments are high enough, shareholders will benefit from the company’s successful expansion too. On the first day of each month I create a quick dividend list (from low-yield to high-yield paying stocks) of

We all have a small problem if we have money to invest. The yields for high-quality stocks go rapidly down. It’s hard to find stocks with a dividend yield of more than 3 percent and a longer dividend growth history. Low yields can’t help you grow your wealth and protect your assets against inflation. Today I started a screen of the most successful stocks in terms of earnings per share growth of the recent 10 years. I implemented a 4% barrier as well as a minimum market capitalization of at least USD1 billion. Linked are the results of the highest

Buying stocks before the ex-dividend date is simple. If you buy a stock before the ex-dividend date and hold them, you will receive the next dividend. Buying high yielding stocks is not a one way strategy to high returns. In addition to high returns, the valuation should be fair. Maybe some of you might think about an investment aboard. A first target country to place your money is Canada. The country is the 12th largest economy in the world with a total gross domestic product of USD1.736 billion. The interest rates, which are at 1 percent, are higher than the rates from the U.S. Not enough the most important issue for a financial stability is the debt to GDP ratio.
