Positve
  • Revenue grew 3% on a reported basis, driven by acquisitions and a double-digit price increase implemented in May.
  • Gross margins remained strong, demonstrating effective cost control and price management despite inflationary pressures.
  • Cash conversion remained robust at over 70% for H1, on track to exceed 90% for the full year.
  • The company maintained its dividend at 4.2p, reflecting confidence in medium-term strategy execution.
  • Acquisitions (Monodraught and Davidson) are integrating well, with Monodraught's orders up 24% and Davidson on track to meet group margin targets.
  • Regulatory tailwinds (Future Home Standard, AMP8, CF25) are strengthening, with new product launches and increased quote bank for stormwater solutions.
  • The company identified over £4 million in annualized savings from simplification initiatives, primarily benefiting 2027 and beyond.
  • Leverage remains within target range at 1.6x, with optionality for further bolt-on acquisitions and buybacks.
  • Sustainability efforts are gaining traction, with over 60% of revenue covered by EPDs and two-thirds of comparisons showing lowest carbon alternatives.
  • The company is investing in people, with 20% of employees in earn-and-learn programs, up from 3.5% four years ago.
Negative
  • Like-for-like revenue declined 5% in H1, reflecting subdued market demand and lower volumes.
  • Underlying operating profit fell 1.6% to £43.9 million, with EBIT margin down 70 basis points.
  • The company faced cost inflation in March and April before price increases took effect in May, creating a margin lag.
  • Climate division experienced a like-for-like revenue decline of 8%, with heating business particularly weak due to lower RMI activity.
  • Two isolated operational issues at AD (slow-moving stock provision of £1.5 million and supplier issue of £0.8 million) negatively impacted H1 results.
  • The Middle East conflict caused direct revenue loss in March-April, though operations have since normalized.
  • The company expects challenging market conditions to persist for the remainder of the year, with continued political and economic uncertainty.
  • Polymer costs remain elevated and volatile, with potential for further increases if the Middle East situation escalates.
  • The company is carrying surplus capacity, though it does not see significant carrying costs due to flexible workforce and optimized plants.
  • The £4 million in cost savings from simplification will primarily impact 2027, not the current year, limiting near-term margin improvement.
