Full Year 2026 Magellan Financial Group Ltd Earnings Call Transcript
Key Points
- Barrenjoey delivered strong growth with operating profit after tax up 68% to $112 million and ROE reaching nearly 33%.
- The combined group generated $778 million in revenue and $215 million in operating earnings after tax on a pro forma basis, with balanced contributions from all three business lines.
- New alternative-asset products are gaining traction, with the Barrenjoey Asset Backed Income Fund increasing AUM by 42% and the Ag Credit Fund by 15% in just three months.
- The company has taken decisive actions to de-risk its balance sheet by moving fund investments to cash and high-quality liquid fixed income, reducing earnings volatility.
- The merger is on track, with integration progressing well, including the completion of the Global Equity fund restructure and the establishment of a US swap-dealer license, which has already facilitated initial trades.
- Corporate Finance and Financial Markets have shown consistent half-on-half growth since inception, demonstrating durable and diversified revenue streams.
- Investment Management revenue declined 21% due to net outflows of $3.3 billion, largely from high-margin retail global-equities products.
- Average management fees fell from 61 basis points to 52 basis points, with the exit rate at 42 basis points, reflecting a shift away from higher-margin retail AUM.
- The repricing and transition of Global Equity funds to Vinva is expected to reduce revenue by $21 million after tax in FY27, with continued outflows as advisors and clients reassess.
- Statutory net profit after tax fell 47% to $88 million, impacted by a $38 million negative fair-value movement on fund investments and $11 million in merger-related costs.
- The de-risking of capital is expected to reduce operating earnings by approximately $17 million after tax in FY27, relative to FY26.
- The company faces ongoing uncertainty in the Investment Management business, with the global-equities product experiencing sustained run-off and no guarantee that outflows will abate.
