GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

ChipMOS TECHNOLOGIES Inc is a semiconductor testing and packaging solutions company. The Company is engaged in research, development, manufacturing and sale of integrated circuits and related assembly, and providing testing services.

Chip Mos Technologies Inc was originated from the back-end factory of Mosel Vitelic, Inc., a Taiwanese manufacturer of semiconductors. In 1997, Mosel spun off its back end operation into ChipMOS Technologies Inc, a joint venture between Mosel, Siliconware Precision Industries Co. Ltd., and others. The Company provides semiconductor testing and packaging solutions to fabless companies, integrates device manufacturers (IDM) and foundries. It offers testing and assembly services for LCD and other flatpanel display (FPD) driver semiconductors and a provider of testing and assembly services for advanced memory products in Taiwan. The Company operates in two locations for outsourced semiconductor manufacturing, Hsinchu and Southern Taiwan Science Parks in Taiwan and Shanghai in Mainland China. It offers services such as: Testing services, Assembly services, Gold Bumping services, Enabling technologies and eService. Testing services: It provides testing solutions for the entire spectrum of integrated circuits, including simple digital logic, complex ASIC, high speed digital, memory, mixed signal and LCD devices. Its test engineering resources provide its customers with the support necessary for maintaining production on a daily basis as well as test program optimization, program conversion from platform-to-platform and test program development. Assembly Services: IC packaging is the essential technology that distributes electrical signals from a silicon chip onto the printed circuit board and provides protection against environmental stresses. It offers package families designed to provide its customers with an array of packaging solutions. The packages available include leadframe-based packages, such as the small outline package (SOP), thin small outline package (TSOP) and quad flat package (LQFP/TQFP); and the substrate-based packages, such as FBGA, VFBGA, stacked CSP, Mini-BGA, LGA, TCP, COG and COF. Gold Bumping services: Gold Bumping technology, which is a predecessor process of TCP, COF and COG packaging, is a necessary interconnection technology for LCD and other flat-panel display driver semiconductors. Gold bump is formed on the designed I/O pad with the height of 12-18 μm. Gold bumps play the role as the interconnections between chips and tapes in TCP and COF packages and the glass substrates in COG package. Enabling technologies include: 3D Technology - Stacked CSP, FCOB (Flip Chip On Board) Technology, Environmentally Friendly Green Package and Chip on Film (COF). eService: It provides website WIP system-CSS(customer service system).
