Key Points

Positve
  • AIA Engineering Ltd (BOM:532683) reported a year-over-year increase in sales volumes, reaching 64,644 tons in Q1 FY27 compared to 60,000 tons in the same quarter last year.
  • The company's new generation discharge system (NGDS) is progressing through trials, with successful tests at smaller mills and ongoing work on medium and larger mills, representing a significant long-term growth opportunity.
  • AIA Engineering Ltd (BOM:532683) has secured a major order for high chrome grinding media in Chile, which is contributing an incremental 3,000-4,000 tons per quarter and is expected to continue.
  • The company maintains a strong competitive position in the high chrome segment, as Chinese competitors have not yet entered this custom-solution market, focusing instead on the forged product space.
  • AIA Engineering Ltd (BOM:532683) is increasing its capital expenditure guidance to INR 350-400 crore for FY27, including investments in a new corporate house and land for future expansion, signaling confidence in future growth.
  • The company's gross margins remain consistent in the 60-61% range, and its operating margin for the quarter was above its stated 20-22% guidance.
Negative
  • AIA Engineering Ltd (BOM:532683) experienced a sequential decline in EBITDA margin from Q4 to Q1, attributed to an unfavorable product mix, lower foreign exchange gains, and increased other expenses.
  • The timeline for the NGDS trials remains uncertain, with management stating that the process could take anywhere from three months to two years, and no specific guidance on conversion or growth was provided.
  • The company's mining volumes declined by 5,400 tons quarter-over-quarter, which management attributed to timing and order execution cycles, but it still reflects a slowdown in the quarter.
  • Elevated freight costs, currently around $8,000-$9,000 per container, and higher raw material prices, including ferrochrome, are putting pressure on margins, though the company is passing through some of these costs.
  • Plans for overseas manufacturing plants in Ghana and China are progressing slowly, with no meaningful progress reported, and management indicated that India remains the primary manufacturing base for the foreseeable future.
  • The company is holding onto a higher cash balance of INR 4,500-5,000 crore and has no immediate plans for capital distribution, which may disappoint investors seeking returns.

I will nevertheless sum up the headline figures and numbers, and we can get into Q&A after that.

So we are at about -- we are 64,644 tons in the first quarter. That compares to 60,000-odd that we did in the first quarter last year, and translating into sales of INR1,153 crore and EBITDA of INR424.56 crore and a profit after tax of INR301 crore.

The tax item, when you look at sequential numbers,
