GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd engages in the manufacturing, selling, packaging, testing and computer-aided design of integrated circuits and other semiconductor devices. In addition, it also manufactures masks.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is the world's largest dedicated chip foundry, with almost 54.5% market share in 2016 (according to Gartner's March 2017 data). TSMC was founded in 1987 as a joint venture of Philips, the government of Taiwan, and private investors. It went public as an ADR in the U.S. in 1997. TSMC's scale and high-quality technology allow the firm to generate solid operating margins, even in the highly competitive foundry business.

iPhone Goes 7nm as Samsung Touts Superior Technology Mass production of 7nm processors is up and running; Taiwan Semiconductor is churning out new processors for Apple’s iPhone launch later this year
Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM) has started to mass-produce new mobile processors for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), reported Bloomberg. The new processor, named A12, is being manufactured using the latest 7nm process technology from Taiwan Semiconductor. This would lead to performance gains and power reduction for the new iPhone models. The first generation iPhone X is based on the 10nm process technology of Taiwan Semiconductors. Semiconductor Roundup Intel delivers 10nm while AMD is upgraded on the sell side. Micron gets serious boost
Intel’s first 10nm processor has been finally spotted in a Lenovo notebook, Ideapad 330. Intel shipped a rather, unappealing, dual core CPU named 8th-gen i3-8121U with a base clock of 2.2 GHz. The new 10nm Core i3 operates at the same TDP (15 watts) as its predecessor i3-8130U. What’s interesting is that Intel has disabled chips’ integrated graphics, as evidenced from the presence of a discrete graphics chip from Advanced Micro Devices in the entry-level Lenovo device.
