Guru Commentaries on NAS:XRAY
We added Dentsply Sirona (XRAY), a leading global dental manufacturing company, to the portfolio. Despite facing challenges in its core capital equipment business due to lower-cost technology alternatives and higher interest rate financing, we are optimistic about the attractive dynamics of the dental market, which includes steady growth and lower reimbursement risk compared to other healthcare segments. Management is executing a strategic reset focused on debt paydown, innovative product development, and portfolio expansion. With these initiatives, we believe XRAY should capitalize on secular growth trends, improve margins, and drive long-term shareholder value.
We purchased DENTSPLY Sirona, Inc. (XRAY), the world’s largest maker of professional dental equipment, whose shares had been left for dead after years of disappointment. At $10.61 against our $26.26 estimate of its private market value, we are buying a global leader that is repairing itself—paying down debt, cutting costs and launching new products—while the market prices in permanent decline.
Dentsply Sirona, Inc. (XRAY) has been laying the groundwork for a turnaround for more than two years, and while the stock has yet to reflect this, we believe the upside potential far outweighs the downside risk. The recent leadership change to CEO Daniel Scavilla, who has a strong record of sales success, is encouraging. His strategies aim to improve margins and free cash flows, which could enhance the company's performance. Despite being among the Fund’s worst performers for the quarter, XRAY's valuation at 6.7X estimated earnings appears extremely discounted, prompting us to remain patient with our position.
