Intel (INTC, Financial) has announced the appointment of new engineering leaders to support CEO Pat Gelsinger's transformation plan. The company has brought in Srinivasan Iyengar, Jean-Didier Allegrucci, and Shailendra Desai for key engineering roles. Greg Ernst, the current head of sales, has been promoted to Chief Revenue Officer.
Since becoming CEO in March, Gelsinger has focused on restoring Intel's engineering talent advantage and creating products that better meet customer needs. He has also announced layoffs and management restructuring. One of his main challenges is revamping Intel's AI chip strategy, as the company lags behind NVIDIA (NVDA) in the AI computing market.
Greg Ernst, who has been with Intel for over 20 years, will now focus on strengthening customer relationships. Srinivasan Iyengar, formerly with Cadence (CDNS), will lead the new "Customer Engineering Excellence Center" and report directly to Gelsinger. Jean-Didier Allegrucci, previously with Apple (AAPL), will oversee AI system-on-chip engineering. Shailendra Desai, joining from Google (GOOGL), will lead AI graphics processor development, a critical step for Intel in competing with NVIDIA.
