Warren Buffett and Prem Watsa Are Among the Gurus with Best Returns from 2008 to 2010

In a previous article we summarized the investment returns of Gurus during the market turmoil from 2008 to 2010. From this practice we try to understand which Gurus have highest returns while have the least risk. We have since updated the returns of Warren Buffett and Prem Watsa. Both of them made into the list of top 10 best performers. This is the top 10.

An explanation here. For Warren Buffett, we use the book value of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A, Financial)(BRK.B, Financial); while for Prem Watsa, we use the book value of Fairfax Financial.


Half of the top 10 Gurus are hedge fund managers, lead by David Tepper and John Paulson. Prem Watsa made a killing in 2008 by shorting financials and buying CDS. He is the number two. Donald Yacktman, Bruce Berkowitz, and Chuck Royce proved themselves to be the best mutual fund mangers of our time.
