GuruFocus founder Dr. Charlie Tian went live today to share updates to the GuruFocus mobile app and did a step-by-step walkthrough for using the Excel-Add In. He demonstrated several of the templates members have access to and took the time to answer several questions from the audience.

Tian started off his presentation by showing the audience the Change Log, where they are able to see all of the major changes that have been made on GuruFocus. He made note of the new additions to the mobile app and showed the audience a featured article that highlights all of the additions.

He then transitioned to a full walkthrough of the Excel Add-In. He began by uninstalling the Add-In from his own computer. Here he informed the audience that the Add-In actually has two separate programs that run simultaneously and that they need to make sure both are installed for full functionality. As he ran through the installation process, Tian noted several points where users might run into issues and walked them through troubleshooting steps.

Once the Add-In was correctly installed, Tian did a demonstration of how quickly members are able to pull in financial data for companies and how they can customize the functions to their liking. He continued to highlight several of the templates that are available for download and installation into Excel. These templates give quick and easy access to a wide variety of information for anyone who may not be experienced in Excel.

At the end of his Excel Add-In walkthrough, Tian received a question from the audience asking how members can utilize GuruFocus to find small-cap companies that are undervalued. He turned to the All-In-One Screener to show off different filters that can be used to find these companies, but also challenged the audience member to define what undervalued meant to them. He continued to explain that companies can be undervalued based upon many different metrics and that investors need to define their own valuation strategy before seeking new investments.

The last feature Tian highlighted during the stream was the Backtesting feature, which allows Premium members to check the performance of different holdings over time. Tian showed off the performance of the High Quality & Low CAPEX screener compared to the S&P 500 over recent years.

Rounding out the live stream, Tian returned to some of the past features that were added to the All-In-One Screener. He showed off the Map and Bubble charts that users have access to and imported a portfolio into the screener to show how they can be used to evaluate different holdings. He finished off the stream by briefly offering his stance on Chinese stocks in response to a question and invited everyone to join him for the next Members Engagement Meeting in December.
