Guru Soros made more than 80 decreases in his third quarter activity. Here’s a review of three sells made by George Soros, starting with Citigroup Inc., reporting revenue of $17.9 billion for the third quarter of 2013, up from $13.7 billion in the same quarter a year ago. The global bank’s quarterly net income was $3.2 billion, compared to $468 million in the same quarter of 2012. Third quarter 2013 earnings were reported as $1.00 per diluted share, up from $0.15 in the same quarter one year ago.

Citigroup Inc. (C, Financial): Sold Out

George Soros has gained steadily on Citigroup since he made a new buy of 1,050 shares at an average price of $35.71, gaining 41.1%, in the first quarter of 2010.

His highest gain was 81.1% in the fourth quarter of 2011 when he sold 52,300 shares at an average price of $27.83 per share.

Up 130% over 12 months, TripAdvisor Inc., an Internet travel company, has a market cap of $12.47 billion. Shares trade with a P/E of 58.50. The company does not pay a dividend.

In the third quarter of 2013, TripAdvisor Inc. reported revenue of $255.1 million, an increase of 20% year-over-year. Quarterly net income was down 6% year-over-year at $55.9 million. Earnings of $0.38 per diluted share were posted for the reporting quarter. The company reported adjusted EBITDA at $104.4 million, down by 2% year-over-year.

Guru Action: As of Sept. 30, 2013, George Soros sold out his TRIP, unloading 140,744 shares at an average price of $70.85 per share, for a gain of 23.9%.

The current share price is around $87.77, with a change from average up 24%.

Soros held TRIP for seven gaining quarters that topped out at a gain of 224.8% when he made a new buy of 366,510 shares at an average price of $27.02 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2011. Five out of seven quarters made triple-digit gains.
