According to a recent report by Engadget, OpenAI has informed investors of its plan to start charging $22 per month for ChatGPT by the end of this year, with aims to increase this fee to $44 monthly within the next five years.
OpenAI is transitioning from a non-profit to a for-profit model, which eliminates any upper limit on returns for investors, thereby allowing the company more flexibility in negotiating with new investors at potentially higher prices.
As per documents, OpenAI's revenue for August was $300 million, and it projects sales to reach $3.7 billion by year-end. However, expenses including wages, rent, and operational costs are expected to result in a $5 billion loss for this year.
OpenAI is sharing these documents to attract new investors to mitigate or avoid funding shortfalls. The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI has commenced a new funding round, aiming to raise approximately $6.5 billion, with the funding activities expected to conclude next week.
