XPeng (XPEV, Financial) shares fell over 2.9% to $12.29 in pre-market trading. XPeng's chairman, He Xiaopeng, announced that the company is expediting its Robotaxi business. By the second half of next year, XPeng plans to enhance its production vehicles with top-tier Robotaxi software experience, aiming for a full launch by 2026.
He Xiaopeng highlighted that XPeng's approach differs from Tesla's, as XPeng will focus on the Robotaxi product itself without venturing into operations. The emphasis will be on improving parking and driving capabilities specific to Robotaxi scenarios, customizing the vehicle's interior and exterior to enhance passenger comfort, and strengthening safety systems.
In contrast, Tesla plans to roll out fully autonomous vehicles in Texas and California next year, with its Cybercab expected to enter production in 2026, potentially extending to 2027. However, users can already experience driverless taxi features with Tesla's current models.
