Microsoft announced that Sebastien Bubeck, one of its vice presidents in artificial intelligence, has decided to leave the company to join OpenAI. Microsoft is not only OpenAI's largest investor but also a significant competitor in the AI space.

Bubeck spent a decade at Microsoft, focusing on small language models. These models aim to match or surpass the effectiveness of larger AI systems while being more efficient. His transition to OpenAI is driven by a shared objective to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI)—defined by OpenAI as highly autonomous systems that outperform humans in economically valuable work.

In a statement, Microsoft expressed gratitude for Bubeck’s contributions and anticipates continued collaboration through his new role at OpenAI.
