Intel and AMD have announced the formation of a joint x86 ecosystem advisory group. This strategic partnership aims to expand the x86 ecosystem amidst intense competition in the chip market. Despite being rivals, Intel and AMD are collaborating to fortify this architecture.

The advisory group includes industry heavyweights such as Broadcom, Dell, Google, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HP, Lenovo, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, and Red Hat. Key technology leaders Linus Torvalds and Tim Sweeney will also contribute.

The main objective of the advisory group is to shape the future of the x86 architecture. By establishing a more unified instruction set and architecture interface, they aim to drive innovation among developers. This initiative seeks to improve compatibility, predictability, and consistency across x86 products. For instance, simplifying architecture guidelines will enhance Intel and AMD's product performance in software consistency and interfaces.
