Qualcomm has introduced a more powerful processor to equip smartphones with laptop-level performance, facilitating the use of new artificial intelligence (AI) tools. At an event held in Hawaii, Qualcomm announced that the latest Snapdragon series will feature its in-house developed Oryon processor design. The company claims this new chip will be 45% faster and more energy-efficient compared to its predecessor.

Occupying a dominant position in the Android operating mobile device market, Qualcomm’s technology updates are crucial for many global smartphone manufacturers competing with Apple. Under the leadership of CEO Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm is refocusing on developing its own processors, marking a shift from the previous reliance on designs from Arm Holdings Plc.

The Oryon processor was developed by engineers brought in when Qualcomm acquired startup Nuvia. It has become a core component of the company’s laptop chips, marketed as "AI PCs." Software giant Microsoft is leveraging these machines to highlight new AI capabilities, posing a challenge to Intel's dominance in the personal computer processor market.

Qualcomm stated that smartphones equipped with the new Snapdragon will experience a significant leap in running capabilities based on generative AI software.
