Amazon (AMZN, Financial) has upped its bet on Anthropic, an AI company, by pumping in another $4 billion, bringing the total amount invested to $8 billion. This investment will be made progressively through convertible notes, with $1.3 billion to be invested first. Amazon will also remain a minority investor in Anthropic, which announced the news on Friday. It also brings the expansion of their already deepening relationship closer, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as Anthropic's primary training ally. AWS will support Anthropic's future AI solutions, while Amazon Trainium and Amazon Inferential chips will help improve training performance
This deal shows the growing interest of giants like Amazon in generative AI, similar to Microsoft's (MSFT, Financial) investment in the OpenAI project. As part of this partnership, AWS will also provide first access to Anthropic's custom fine-tuning features for AWS customers developing AI solutions.
The latest investment demonstrates the competitive race in AI, where organizations are partnering with key players to advance in AI. Anthropic has already incorporated its AI models into AWS's Bedrock service, and this further integration appears certain to supercharge the diffusion of advanced generative AI across industries.
