The U.S.-based chipmaking titan Nvidia (NVDA, Financial) is set to increase the money it's pouring into humanoid robotics, as the field is expected to explode in 2025. In the first half of the year, the company will launch its next-generation compact computers, codenamed Tetson Thor, for humanoid robots. This initiative complements Nvidia's strategy to broaden beyond its preeminent data center business and make the most of ‘physical AI' growth.

The robotics sector is on the cusp of something transforming, Nvidia's VP of Robotics, Deepu Talla, said, likening it to being a 'chatGPT moment' for physical AI. Nvidia wants to be a key platform supplier in a burgeoning market: robotics. However, Nvidia's data center division, which brought in $3.3 trillion to the company's top line and made up 88 percent of the firm's Q3 revenue, continues to be the driver of the company's valuation.

Earlier this year, Nvidia teamed up with big names in the robotics space by investing in a $2.6 billion funding round for Figure AI. It is a growing trend among AI and tech companies as competitors such as AMD, Google and Amazon all ramp up competition on AI apps.

Nvidia's innovations can be quite a linchpin for the industry as humanoid robots start to appear in industrial environments, automotive factories, and our homes. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently pointed to the burst in industrial robotics investment as an indication of the company's focus on the sector. Leading the next wave of AI-driven robotics, the forthcoming Tetson Thor platform will be a crucial step for the company.
