ScheringPlough Corp. (SGP): Chairman and CEO, Director Fred Hassan Bought 110,000 Shares


Pharmaceutical company Schering-Plough Corporation (SGP)’s first quarter profits plunged 48% from hefty acquisition expenses. The company pulled in $253 million or $0.15 a share compared to $543 million or $0.36 a share in 2007. The company purchased Organon Biosciences for $14.5 billion in late-November. Last week of April, the FDA denied ScheringPlough and Merck from making a new pill that will combine Claritin and Singulair.


Kenneth Fisher, Richard Aster Jr., Jean-Marie Eveillard, Bill Nygren, Irving Kahn, Dodge & Cox, and Edward Owens own shares of Schering Plough. HOTCHKIS & WILEY sold out their Schering Plough holdings before December.


Chairman and CEO, Director Fred Hassan bought 110,000 shares of SGP stock on 4/24/08 at $18.26, which he currently owns a total of 720,800 shares.

Novellus Systems Inc. (NVLS): CEO Richard Hill Bought 10,000 Shares


Novellus Systems, Inc. (NVLS) engages in the manufacture, marketing, and servicing of semiconductor equipment for thin film deposition, surface preparation, and chemical mechanical planarization. The company shares prices have dropped nearly 10% its value year to date. Due to lower sales, Novellus cut their first quarter earnings 71% to $15.5 million or $0.15 a share compared to $53.8 million or $0.42 a year ago. Revenue declined 21% to $314.7 million. The company expects slower business for the rest of the year.

Worker’s compensation insurance provider SeaBright Insurance Holdings, Inc. (SEAB), kept their first quarter profits steady at $10.9 million or $0.52 compared to a previous $10.1 million or $0.48, on 17% revenue increase to $64.2 million. Some analysts predict SeaBright to be taken over along with other insurance firms.


Chairman, President & CEO, Director John G. Pasqualetto bought 8,000 shares on 4/25/08 at $15.39 and Director George M. Morvis bought 1,000 shares on 11/5/07 at $15.48.

Affymetrix Inc. (AFFX): Chairman and CEO, Director Stephen P. A. Fodor Bought 10,000 Shares


Affymetrix, Inc. (AFFX) engages in the development, manufacture, sale, and servicing of consumables and systems for genetic analysis in the life sciences and clinical healthcare markets. In the first quarter, the company over doubled their profits to $46.3 million or $0.58 compared to a loss of $4 million or $0.06 a year ago. AFFX’s law-suit payment of $90 million offset its first quarter to a gain, additional to a flat revenue of $80.4 million.
