Chinese AI application DeepSeek has gained significant global attention, topping the free download charts on the Apple App Store in both China and the United States. As of January 27, DeepSeek has become a popular choice among users seeking generative AI models for information retrieval, text and image generation, and conversational interactions.
According to a Korean market research firm, ChatGPT was the most used generative AI model in South Korea during the fourth week of the previous month, with 4.93 million users. Following closely was DeepSeek, attracting 1.21 million users. Other AI applications like Wrtn, a collaboration between Japan and Korea, had 1.07 million users, while Perplexity, Microsoft's Copilot, and Claude had 360,000, 170,000, and 70,000 users, respectively.
This survey focused on AI applications with primary functionalities in information retrieval, text and image generation, and conversational interaction, excluding those specifically designed for photography, recording, and translation purposes.
