Krafton, the developer of the popular game "PUBG," is in discussions with OpenAI to explore potential collaborations in AI-driven gaming. Krafton's CEO, Kim Chang-han, met with OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, during Altman's visit to Seoul for meetings with South Korean tech partners.

The discussions focused on leveraging OpenAI's flagship large language model (LLM) to develop virtual cooperative characters (CPC) and optimize game applications using AI models. Krafton has been focusing on AI-driven game development and unveiled its CPC technology in collaboration with NVIDIA earlier this year at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

CPC technology represents a significant advancement over traditional game AI, moving beyond scripted behavior models of non-playable characters (NPCs). Unlike traditional NPCs, CPCs can engage in natural conversations, providing a more immersive and interactive gaming experience.

Krafton plans to integrate CPC technology into its games, including "PUBG" and an upcoming life simulation game, "inZOI," set for release later this year.
