OpenAI, the Microsoft (MSFT, Financial)-backed AI startup, is rolling out its deep research AI agent to a wider audience, including ChatGPT Plus, Team, Education, and Enterprise users, the company announced Tuesday.
Users in these tiers will receive 10 deep research queries per month, while Pro users will have access to 120 queries per month, OpenAI said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The deep research agent is designed to analyze and synthesize information independently, acting as a research analyst that scans hundreds of online sources to generate comprehensive reports. It runs on an optimized version of OpenAI's upcoming o3 model, which specializes in web browsing, data analysis, and reasoning-based research.
However, OpenAI acknowledged that deep research still has limitations, including occasional hallucinations and incorrect inferences, though at a lower rate than previous ChatGPT models.
CEO Sam Altman has described deep research as a major step toward artificial general intelligence (AGI), highlighting its ability to adapt to new information in real time.
