Apple's Return to Routers with Advanced Chip Development

Apple is reportedly considering a return to the router market, leveraging its own advanced chip technology to enhance its smart home ecosystem. The company, known for its innovation, previously offered a range of Wi-Fi routers, including the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule. These devices were popular for their user-friendly design and reliability but were discontinued in 2018 as Apple shifted focus to its core business amid intense market competition.

According to reports, Apple is developing a highly integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip intended for use in new Apple TV and HomePod mini models. This advanced chip is expected to provide these devices with wireless access point capabilities. It will support the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard and potentially Wi-Fi 7, significantly surpassing the Wi-Fi 5 standard of the last AirPort routers.

By integrating router functionality into its upcoming Apple TV and HomePod products, Apple aims to gain a stronger foothold in the smart home market. This strategic move could position Apple to offer more comprehensive and seamless smart home solutions, further enhancing its ecosystem.
