Recent reports indicate that Apple (AAPL, Financial) plans to purchase the GB300 NVL72 graphics processing units (GPU) from NVIDIA (NVDA), involving about 250 racks or 18,000 GPUs. However, this order pales in comparison with Meta's (META) anticipated purchase of 1.3 million GPUs this year. Therefore, this acquisition alone won't significantly advance Apple's artificial intelligence objectives.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from Tianfeng International Securities highlighted that large-scale shipments of the GB300 NVL72 are expected only by the first half of next year. The suppliers for this purchase are Dell (DELL) and Super Micro Computer (SMCI), unlike primary assemblers such as Hon Hai or Quanta. This suggests Apple might receive these deliveries by the second or third quarter of next year, or even later. Consequently, the short-term impact on Apple's AI capabilities is projected to be minimal.
