April 2 – OpenAI, backed by Microsoft (MSFT, Financial), saw its revenue climb 30% in three months as ChatGPT's paid subscribers surpassed 20 million, up from 15.5 million at the end of 2024, according to The Information.
The subscriber increase suggests OpenAI is now generating at least $415 million in monthly revenue, a jump from $333 million late last year. A company spokesperson provided the figures.
The growth comes as OpenAI secures a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank (SFTBY, Financial), pushing its valuation to $300 billion. The company also revealed that more than 500 million people use ChatGPT weekly.
OpenAI previously projected its revenue to more than triple to $12.7 billion in 2025, up from $3.7 billion last year. By 2026, that figure could reach $29.4 billion, according to Bloomberg.
