LightPath Technologies (NASDAQ: LPTH), based in Orlando, Florida, has announced that its newly acquired subsidiary, G5 Infrared, has been awarded an engineering development model (EDM) order worth $2.2 million from L3Harris Technologies. This contract is part of the U.S. Navy's Shipboard Panoramic Electro-Optic/Infrared (SPEIR) Program, with the systems scheduled for delivery in 2025.
The SPEIR Program is designed to enhance naval capabilities such as anti-ship cruise missile defense, counter-fast attack craft operations, and counter-unmanned aerial vehicle detection. The systems will initially be integrated into Arleigh-Burke-class destroyers and subsequently across all U.S. Navy surface ships.
This contract is a significant step for LightPath Technologies following its acquisition of G5 Infrared, positioning the company to broaden its reach in the $9 billion infrared imaging market. The deal is also strategically important as it highlights the company's capability in securing defense contracts and underscores its growth potential within this sector.
