WISeKey International Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: WKEY), a global leader in cybersecurity and IoT technology, has announced a significant advancement by its subsidiary SEALCOIN AG. The company has successfully demonstrated a groundbreaking Proof of Concept (PoC) for integrating Internet of Things (IoT) devices via satellite communications. This PoC leverages the WISeSat Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation and the FOSSA IoT platform to enable secure, microtransaction-driven data exchanges between off-grid IoT devices.
The architecture of this system consists of three primary components. The first is a device-to-device exchange via satellite, using SEALCOIN as the medium for value exchange. The second component involves REST API integration with WISeSat through FOSSA, allowing seamless data retrieval from satellite-linked databases. Lastly, transactions are securely settled on the Hedera blockchain network using SEALCOIN, with each data set being cryptographically signed at the source device for enhanced security and integrity.
WISeKey's strategic direction aims to embed SEALCOIN capabilities directly within satellites using Secure Element technology. This move is anticipated to pave the way for new business models centered around Satellite-as-a-Service, enabling autonomous participation of space-borne infrastructure in decentralized economies. This modular system supports easy integration with new sensors and satellite operators, amplifying its global deployment potential.
Carlos Moreira, CEO of WISeKey Group, emphasized the project's significance, stating, "Our goal with SEALCOIN has always been to make transactional IoT borderless, scalable, and secure. With this demonstration, we've expanded that vision into space, opening doors to solutions for regions lacking cellular or terrestrial coverage."
This venture illustrates WISeKey's capacity to facilitate secure data transactions in regions with infrastructure challenges, offering new opportunities for sectors like smart agriculture, environmental monitoring, and defense applications. The company's advance into satellite-enabled IoT transactions marks a vital step toward realizing a decentralized, resilient IoT ecosystem.
