CGI Inc. (GIB, Financial) has unveiled an expansion of its Universal Virtual Flight Data Recorder (UVFDR) with the introduction of the CGI VirtualFlightRecorder, an innovative AWS-cloud-based solution aimed at enhancing aviation safety worldwide. Developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency, this initiative strives to improve operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with the Global Aeronautics Distress and Safety System (GADSS) standards.

This solution replicates traditional Black Box functionality within a virtual environment, providing enhanced data resilience in emergency situations, adherence to global standards, and seamless operational integration. Key technological features include satellite data transmission for emergencies, blockchain technology ensuring data security, and real-time data monitoring capabilities.

Designed for commercial air transport, business aviation, and advanced air mobility sectors, CGI VirtualFlightRecorder offers cost-effective storage of authenticated flight data, benefiting aircraft operators, manufacturers, and regulators. The system aligns with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and supports a route to compliance with GADSS informed by EASA, FAA, and EUROCAE recommendations.

With support from partners such as Cranfield University and AWS, CGI's solution is set to transform aviation safety technology, offering a scalable, secure, and reliable service that empowers stakeholders to meet evolving safety and regulatory needs.
