- Innovative technologies such as digital twins, BIM, and DfMA will be utilized to enhance project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
AECOM (ACM) has announced a significant engagement, partnering with AtkinsRéalis to provide technical services for the Northern Metropolis Highway (NMH) in Hong Kong. This project, spanning approximately 23 kilometers, is part of a strategic initiative by the Highways Department of the HKSAR Government to enhance connectivity in the region.
The NMH will connect Tin Shui Wai in the west to the New Territories North New Town near Ping Che in the east, comprising four main sections. It will feature dual three-lane sections with at least 8 major interchanges to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on existing highways. AECOM and AtkinsRéalis will conduct comprehensive assessments, including engineering feasibility, alignment options, preliminary design, and environmental impact studies.
To deliver the project efficiently, AECOM will implement advanced methodologies such as digital twins, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA). These technologies are expected to ensure cost-effective design and construction, as well as enhance project management and execution.
The Northern Metropolis Highway is one of three major road projects announced under the government's Strategic Studies on Railways and Major Roads, aiming to support the development of Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis. This contract reinforces AECOM’s position in Hong Kong’s infrastructure sector and highlights its capability to deliver complex transportation projects with innovative solutions.
