  • Hesai Group's lidar technology powers Didi and GAC Aion's first L4 production-ready Robotaxi.
  • Mass production is set to begin in 2025, with deployment starting in 2026.
  • The Robotaxi will feature four AT128 lidar sensors, forming part of a 33-sensor fusion system for enhanced situational awareness.

Hesai Group (HSAI, Financial), a leader in lidar technology, has announced that its AT128 lidar sensors have been selected for use in the first production-ready L4 Robotaxi, a project jointly developed by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion. The Robotaxi was introduced at the 2025 GAC Tech Day, and it is slated to enter mass production in 2025, with deployment expected to start in 2026. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the commercialization of autonomous vehicle technology.

The innovative Robotaxi will be equipped with four AT128 lidar sensors as part of its 360-degree perception system. These sensors offer a resolution of 1200×128, capturing 1.53 million points per second, providing a detection range of 200 meters and a field of view of 120 degrees. In total, the vehicle incorporates 33 sensors, utilizing heterogeneous sensor fusion for real-time situational awareness, which is essential for achieving Level 4 autonomy.

David Li, Co-Founder and CEO of Hesai, expressed enthusiasm about supporting the advancement of the L4 Robotaxi, highlighting the synergy between cutting-edge lidar technology and sophisticated autonomous driving systems. The collaboration with Didi, a leading mobility platform in China, and GAC Aion, a major automaker, provides Hesai with the opportunity to scale up its lidar production and solidify its position as a key player in the autonomous vehicle sensor market.

Hesai continues to focus on pushing the boundaries of lidar technology and collaborating with partners to deliver safe, scalable, and cost-effective autonomous driving solutions worldwide. The company's commitment to innovation and quality positions it well to capitalize on the growing demand for advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous vehicles.
