  • Rigetti (RGTI, Financial) secures £3.5 million in funding through Innovate UK's Quantum Missions pilot competition.
  • The project aims to advance quantum error correction with an upgrade from 24 to 36 qubits.
  • Additional partnerships include collaborations with SEEQC and TreQ for further quantum computing innovations.

Rigetti Computing (RGTI) has been awarded £3.5 million as part of Innovate UK's Quantum Missions pilot competition. The funds will be used to lead a consortium with Riverlane and the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) to enhance quantum error correction capabilities on superconducting quantum computers. The project will focus on upgrading the NQCC's quantum computer from 24 to 36 qubits, implementing Rigetti's latest generation control system, and integrating with Riverlane's Quantum Error Correction Stack.

Rigetti's initiative aims to address fundamental challenges in quantum computing, such as high error rates and processing bottlenecks. These efforts are crucial for achieving large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing, a milestone necessary for practical quantum applications.

In addition to this project, Rigetti has secured two more Quantum Missions projects. One collaboration with SEEQC involves integrating digital chip-based technology, while the other with TreQ, Qruise, Q-CTRL, and Oxford Ionics, aims to create an open-architecture quantum computing testbed. These projects will not only strengthen Rigetti's position in the UK's quantum computing ecosystem but also contribute to the broader advancement of quantum computing technology.
