United Parcel Service (UPS, Financial) is reportedly in discussions with robotics startup Figure AI to integrate humanoid robots into its logistics operations. These talks have been ongoing since last year, with negotiations intensifying in recent months. The specific roles these robots will play within UPS's network remain unclear.

In February, Figure AI hinted at a collaboration with a logistics company by releasing a video on social media showcasing a humanoid robot sorting small packages beside a conveyor belt. This robot, standing at 5 feet 6 inches, highlights the growing trend among startups and tech giants to leverage AI advancements to develop robots that mimic human appearance and movements.

Figure AI has emerged as a prominent player in this field, with previous reports indicating plans to raise $1.5 billion at a $39.5 billion valuation. However, there are doubts about the depth of Figure's partnership with clients like BMW.

UPS has a history of investing in automation, deploying robotic arms and AI-driven software at its Velocity facilities. The company is also collaborating with startup Dexterity Inc. to develop industrial robots with human-like precision.
