Meta Platforms (META, Financial) has unveiled a new standalone AI application, Meta AI, designed to compete with popular chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT. This intelligent assistant, built on Meta's proprietary large language model technology, Llama, was previously integrated into social apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. The new app allows users to access AI services directly, bypassing other Meta products.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg described Meta AI as a personal assistant focused on voice interaction, helping users with news and personal tasks. Meta AI aims to offer a differentiated experience through voice interaction, personalization, and leveraging social media data. By integrating Meta's platform data, the app can tailor its services to user preferences.
The standalone app features a social feed for sharing AI experiences and connects with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Zuckerberg emphasized that this launch marks the beginning of a long developmental journey. Meta introduced the app ahead of its first AI conference, LlamaCon, in Menlo Park, California, where it also showcased Llama API developer platform and advancements in AI fraud detection.
