Apple (AAPL, Financial) is working closely with Anthropic, an AI startup supported by Amazon (AMZN), to develop a new AI programming platform named "vibe-coding." This platform aims to assist developers in writing, editing, and testing code more efficiently. It will integrate Anthropic's Claude Sonnet language model as an AI-enhanced version of Apple's Xcode development tool.
Currently, "vibe-coding" is undergoing internal testing at Apple, with no confirmation on its public release yet. The platform features a chatbot-like interface that allows developers to request code writing or modifications using natural language, as well as assist in UI testing and debugging. If successful, it will be a significant aid for those using Xcode and Swift for iOS app development.
Apple is expected to reveal more details at the upcoming WWDC 2025 conference. This strategic collaboration with Anthropic indicates Apple's gradual acceptance of external AI technologies. Previously, Apple considered integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into Siri and is now evaluating Google's Gemini model as an alternative.
In addition to "vibe-coding," Apple is advancing its internal Apple Intelligence initiatives, including personalized emojis, AI writing assistance, and notification management, aiming for a smarter user experience.
