Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) has informed the European Union that it will comply with EU regulations regardless of its agreement with them. The company previously announced plans to decouple its Teams chat and video application from its Office software globally. This strategic decision aims to avoid EU antitrust penalties following a complaint from Salesforce (CRM) subsidiary Slack, which alleged that Microsoft unfairly bundled Teams with Office.
EU Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera noted that the EU seeks to maintain open trade relations with the U.S., though not at any cost. This statement underscores the EU's intention to avoid a trade war while ensuring compliance with its regulations.
