- Power Integrations (POWI, Financial) launches new 1700 V InnoSwitch™3-AQ flyback ICs for 800 V automotive applications.
- New designs enhance reliability, save space, and simplify manufacturing processes for electric vehicles.
- The ICs are available from $6 per unit for 10,000-unit quantities and offer efficiency up to 91%.
Power Integrations (POWI), a leader in high-voltage integrated circuits, has announced the release of five new reference designs targeting 800 V battery electric vehicle (BEV) applications. Unveiled at PCIM 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany, these designs are based on the company's advanced 1700 V InnoSwitch™3-AQ flyback switcher ICs.
These new designs, ranging from 16 W to 120 W, are engineered for diverse automotive applications, including DC-DC bus conversion, inverter emergency power, battery management, and auxiliary system power supplies. By utilizing both wound and low-profile planar transformers, Power Integrations aims to enhance the power conversion efficiency while saving space and improving reliability.
The designs feature the new wide-creepage InSOP™-28G package, which supports 1000 VDC on the primary side. This package provides adequate creepage and clearance in pollution degree 2 environments, meeting high-voltage automotive safety requirements. "The new InSOP™-28G package addresses the critical need for enhanced safety and reliability," commented Mike Stroka, a product marketing engineer at Power Integrations.
To support the market demand, the reference design kits, priced between $50 and $100, are available through authorized distributors such as DigiKey, Newark, Mouser, and RS Components. Additional information and resources can be accessed directly from the Power Integrations website.
