  • Zeta Economic Index for April 2025 shows a disconnect between consumer sentiment and spending behavior.
  • Despite a drop in consumer sentiment indicators, browsing and credit intent have increased, suggesting cautious but continued consumer engagement.
  • Sector sentiment shows divergence, with tech and healthcare gaining interest, while discretionary spending weakens.

The Zeta Global (ZETA, Financial) has released the Zeta Economic Index (ZEI) for April 2025, powered by its proprietary Generative AI and real-time data from over 245 million US consumers. The index suggests stability in economic activities, with the ZEI score slightly rising by 1.1% month-over-month (MoM) to 69.1. Despite a softening consumer sentiment, core activity indicators remain resilient, indicating consumers are becoming more selective rather than retreating from spending.

Credit line expansion intent rose by 6.0% MoM, and online browsing increased by 10.5% MoM, reflecting a cautious but active consumer mindset. Contrary to sentiment surveys, these behaviors suggest that while consumers are more budget-conscious, they continue to engage in economic activities.

Sector-wise, consumer interest realigned in April, with discretionary spending weakening, while sectors like technology and healthcare saw gains. The tech sector, boosted by increased consumer tech engagement and AI enhancements, gained 4.4 points MoM. Healthcare interest also increased by 2.8 points MoM, driven by ongoing wellness trends.

Entertainment and retail sectors increased by 2.7 points each, likely due to seasonal changes and cultural events. Financial services also saw a modest gain of 1.9 points, as market volatility keeps investors attentive to financial news.

The Zeta Economic Index remains a vital tool for understanding consumer behavior trends and economic momentum, providing businesses with real-time insights critical for strategic decision-making. However, it is not intended as investment advice. Zeta Global continues to leverage AI and rich data insights to empower marketing strategies across various verticals.
