Forrester Research (FORR) has released a report outlining the top 10 emerging technologies that are expected to significantly impact businesses by the end of 2025. The research highlights a shift in AI innovation from experimentation to a business imperative, with firms needing to adapt quickly to the accelerating pace of AI development.

In the short-term, IoT security is anticipated to be crucial as cyber threats rise, providing significant benefits to businesses heavily integrated with technology. Synthetic data, new to the list this year, enhances AI model training and ensures data privacy, benefiting sectors like financial services, insurance, healthcare, and the public sector.

Mid-term benefits are expected from technologies like Agentic AI, which promises increased adaptability and autonomy in business processes but still requires improvements in trust and coordination. GenAI for visual content creation is also gaining traction, likely revolutionizing marketing and retail with immersive visuals.

Among the technologies that will take a longer time to mature, humanoid robots stand out. Fueled by advances in GenAI and reduced hardware costs, these robots promise human-like functionality. However, obstacles such as high development costs and integration complexities with current workflows are challenges to overcome before widespread adoption.

Sharyn Leaver, Forrester's chief research officer, stressed the importance for business and technology leaders to prioritize investments in technologies that offer the greatest potential for growth and innovation, amidst global uncertainties. The key to thriving in this rapidly advancing technological landscape is to balance AI innovation with strategic risk management.
