Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and the National FFA Organization have announced the nationwide expansion of their FarmBeats for Students program. This innovative educational initiative will now be available in 185 middle and high schools' FFA chapters across all 50 states. The program aims to teach precision agriculture using data science and artificial intelligence (AI), providing students with state-of-the-art tools and practical learning experiences.

The FarmBeats for Students kits are equipped with environmental sensors and a comprehensive curriculum designed for hands-on learning. Students can use these kits to construct sensor systems, enabling them to monitor soil moisture and detect nutrient deficiencies in real-time. This exposure not only supports precision farming but also encourages students to apply AI technology in tackling real-world agricultural challenges specific to their regions.

While FFA chapters receive these kits free of charge, other teachers and students can purchase the kits for $35. Additionally, educators can access free training through the Microsoft Educator Learn Center, earning professional development credits by learning about precision agriculture, data science, and AI. This initiative is aligned with the AI for K-12 guidelines, agricultural standards, computer science standards, and Common Core math requirements.

"Our partnership with Microsoft exemplifies the power of collaboration in addressing industry needs while fostering personal and professional growth among students," noted Christine White, Chief Program Officer of the National FFA Organization. The collaboration signifies a strategic move to inspire future agricultural leaders and equip them with the essential skills to thrive in a technologically driven industry.
