Swisscom, Switzerland's leading ICT company, has partnered with Blue Planet, a division of Ciena (CIEN), to overhaul its legacy assurance systems. The initiative leverages Blue Planet’s Unified Assurance and Analytics (UAA) platform, marking a significant step towards more automated and AI-driven service management.

The UAA platform will initially target fault and performance management across Swisscom's access and transport networks, before expanding to mobile backhaul and B2B services. This modernization follows the successful deployment of UAA in Swisscom's data center networks, allowing for more flexible service offerings to both consumer and enterprise customers.

Thomas Zippo, Product Manager at Swisscom, emphasized that the transformation addresses the limitations of traditional Operating Support System (OSS) processes, which are often costly and labor-intensive. By adopting Blue Planet's cloud-ready solution, Swisscom aims to streamline its network operations, enhance customer experience, and support the seamless delivery of dynamic services.

Joe Cumello, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Blue Planet, highlighted the strategic shift among service providers like Swisscom towards AI-led operations. The UAA platform provides advanced features such as automated root cause analysis and end-to-end service lifecycle automation, empowering Swisscom to effectively manage its complex, multi-vendor, multi-domain networks.

This collaboration also contributes to ongoing efforts between Swisscom and Blue Planet to standardize network assurance integration, aligning with initiatives of the Internet Engineering Task Force. As the world's most sustainable telecommunications company, Swisscom continues to lead in ICT innovation, reinforcing its competitive edge in both the Swiss and Italian markets.
