Spotify has announced updates to its app, aiming to enhance user control over music listening and recommendations. These updates introduce features gradually to both free and premium users, including tools for managing playlists, optimizing current listening experiences, and aiding playlist creation.
The updates shift the app's reliance from algorithm-based recommendations to giving users more power over their listening choices. Premium users will find improvements in the playback queue, allowing for easier use of shuffle, smart shuffle, repeat, and sleep timer functions. Users can also disable smart shuffle and autoplay in settings.
Premium subscribers will now see song recommendations after their queued tracks, enabling them to decide which to keep in the queue. Additionally, an updated "hide" button allows users to hide unwanted tracks across devices. A forthcoming "pause recommendations" feature will temporarily remove a song from recommendations for 30 days.
Spotify has also improved playlist management on mobile devices. Users can now add, sort, and edit playlists more easily. In select countries, users can filter "Liked Songs" by genre and convert them into playlists. Other music filtering tools have been repositioned for better accessibility.
Premium users can use updated AI playlist features and the "Jam" feature for collaborative playlist management. The "Your Library" tab is now the third option at the bottom of the mobile app.
