  • Total passenger traffic for Volaris (VLRS, Financial) increased by 14.8% year-over-year to 2.6 million in April 2025.
  • Load factor decreased by 3.1 percentage points to 81.6% despite increases in capacity and passenger traffic.
  • ASM capacity grew by 16.9%, while RPMs increased by 12.7%, indicating a supply-demand imbalance.

Controladora Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: VLRS), commonly known as Volaris, announced its preliminary traffic results for April 2025. The ultra-low-cost carrier reported a significant 16.9% year-over-year increase in Available Seat Miles (ASM) capacity alongside a 12.7% growth in Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs).

Despite the boost in capacity and RPMs, the load factor for Volaris decreased by 3.1 percentage points to 81.6%. This decrease suggests a potential overcapacity situation, as the growth in capacity outpaced demand.

In terms of passenger traffic, Volaris transported 2.6 million passengers in April 2025, marking a 14.8% increase compared to the same month in 2024. The domestic market performed better with an 86.9% load factor, whereas the international segment lagged behind at 73.9%.

Enrique Beltranena, President and CEO of Volaris, highlighted the complexities of forecasting capacity amid macroeconomic volatility. He emphasized the airline's commitment to maintaining competitive pricing strategies to balance supply with customer demand while focusing on sustained profitability.

The discrepancy in growth rates between ASMs and RPMs alongside the declining load factor points towards a potential need for strategic adjustments in capacity planning. Moving forward, Volaris intends to cautiously modulate growth, aligning more closely with actual demand to enhance operational efficiency.
