Alpha Pro Tech (APT, Financial) reported first-quarter revenue of $13.822 million, a slight increase from the $13.482 million recorded in the same period last year. The company navigated a challenging environment as the housing market continued to weaken, with single-family housing starts down 4.7% compared to the first quarter of 2024.
Despite these market challenges, APT's sales of core building products, including housewrap and synthetic roof underlayment, fell by 3.6%. The decline was primarily driven by decreased housewrap sales to two private-label distributors, factors beyond the company's control. Excluding these specific sales, APT's core product sales would have improved over the previous year's first quarter.
The first quarter of 2025 also saw difficulties due to economic uncertainties, lower single-family housing starts, and adverse weather conditions, including colder temperatures and increased snowfall, which further impacted housewrap sales.
