Himax Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: HIMX) has announced the launch of its innovative miniature ultra-luminous Dual-Edge Front-lit LCoS microdisplay, which is set to make its debut at Display Week 2025. This significant event, organized by the Society for Information Display (SID), will be held from May 11 to May 16, 2025, in San Jose, with Himax’s Senior Director, Simon Fan-Chiang, presenting on May 13.

The microdisplay features a groundbreaking design with a compact size of just 0.09 cubic centimeters and a weight of 0.2 grams. It achieves up to 350,000 nits of brightness and produces 1 lumen of output while maintaining an impressive power efficiency with a maximum consumption of 250mW. This high-performance display supports a resolution of 720x720 with a pixel pitch of 4.25µm, ensuring clear and vibrant visuals.

Specifically targeted for next-generation augmented reality (AR) glasses and head-mounted displays, this microdisplay offers a significant advancement in terms of brightness, compactness, and efficiency. The integration of both illumination optics and the LCoS panel within a singular, ultra-compact form factor addresses key challenges faced in AR device development, particularly for applications where space, weight, and thermal management are critical.
