OpenAI and Microsoft are revisiting their partnership terms to facilitate OpenAI's potential future public listing while ensuring Microsoft's access to advanced AI models. Microsoft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI, and discussions are ongoing about the extent of Microsoft's equity in OpenAI's new profit-driven ventures. Microsoft is reportedly open to reducing its stake in exchange for new technology developments post-2030.
The two companies are also revising a broader contract initially established in 2019 when Microsoft made a $1 billion investment in OpenAI. Recent reports indicate that OpenAI has informed investors of its intention to reduce Microsoft's revenue-sharing proportion as its restructuring progresses. In January, Microsoft adjusted some agreement terms with OpenAI following OpenAI's joint venture with Oracle and Japan's SoftBank Group to build new AI data centers in the U.S., valued at up to $500 billion.
