The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge data center in collaboration with CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWV) and MERLIN Edged. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in Europe's AI infrastructure, positioning Barcelona and Catalonia as a strategic hub for artificial intelligence.
The new 15MW data center will accommodate 10,224 NVIDIA H200 Tensor Core GPUs with plans to expand its capacity with the Blackwell supercomputer in 2026. This development is part of CoreWeave's ambitious $2.2 billion investment plan in Europe, announced in 2024.
The facility boasts a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15, markedly superior to the average European PUE of 1.46 and the global average of 1.56. Entirely powered by renewable energy, the data center incorporates environmentally friendly features, such as zero water consumption for cooling.
Strategically connected to global markets through the Barcelona Cable Landing Station, the facility leverages its Mediterranean location for optimal digital connectivity. This initiative not only fosters local economic growth but also emphasizes sustainability, aligning with CoreWeave's commitment to efficient and eco-friendly operations.
