- Partnership with Evolution Digital expands interoperability options, reducing vendor lock-in
- Platform serves over 33 million homes globally across major markets
- Integration enables lower capital expenditures for operators
Harmonic (HLIT, Financial) has announced a strategic partnership with Evolution Digital to enhance its Open ONU initiative for fiber broadband deployments. This collaboration is a significant step forward in enabling interoperability between Harmonic's cOSâ„¢ virtualized broadband platform and Evolution Digital's EVO1111XG XGS-PON bridge and EVO6022GP3 Wi-Fi 6 GPON gateway.
The partnership aligns with Harmonic's mission to create an open, flexible fiber broadband ecosystem, reducing vendor lock-in and minimizing deployment costs. The cOS platform, which currently serves over 33 million homes worldwide, allows operators to support ONU devices from any vendor. This extended interoperability gives broadband providers the flexibility to choose CPE devices based on performance, cost, and deployment requirements, ultimately speeding up fiber service rollouts and reducing capital expenditures.
This initiative bolsters Harmonic's competitive position against traditional integrated vendors by providing broader choices for network design and deployment strategies. The company's commitment to both current GPON and next-generation 10G XGS-PON compatibility ensures readiness for immediate deployments and future network upgrades.
This strategic move is part of the industry's shift towards disaggregated, software-defined networking architectures, aimed at giving operators more choices and cost efficiencies in their fiber network deployments.
