Square, part of Block Inc (XYZ, Financial), has unveiled its most advanced handheld point-of-sale device to date, the Square Handheld. This new addition to Square's extensive portfolio is specifically crafted to meet the demands of fast-moving and operationally complex businesses, such as restaurants and retailers.
The Square Handheld is characterized by its sleek and durable design, weighing just 11 ounces and less than an inch thick. It sports a 6.2-inch Corning Gorilla Glass touchscreen and has an IP54 rating, ensuring it can withstand water splashes and dust. Furthermore, its robust battery is built to last through a full day of operation.
Among its standout features are barcode scanning capabilities for efficient checkouts and inventory management, a 16 MP camera for merchandise documentation, and comprehensive payment functionalities that integrate seamlessly with Square’s software ecosystem.
Powering the device is the redesigned Square Point of Sale app, which offers seven different modes customizable to various business needs, enhancing user experience with quick settings and timely push notifications. This app is integral in supporting the operational demands of businesses, demonstrated by the fact that restaurants and retailers contributed 50% to Square's gross payment volume in 2024.
Available for purchase online at the Square Shop for $399, the Square Handheld can be further personalized with Belkin SheerForce cases, which provide additional protection and a touch of personal branding for $39. This launch coincides with Square’s new biannual Square Releases initiative, designed to introduce new tools and features collectively.
